The Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry and the Malta Business Registry (MBR) will bring together business leaders and regulatory representatives on 5th November 2026 for an event focused on improving regulatory efficiency, accelerating digitalisation and reducing bureaucracy.

Taking place at the Malta Business Registry in Żejtun, the event, titled ‘Smarter Regulation, More Agility – Digital Mindset, Better Services and Less Bureaucracy’, forms part of Malta SME Week 2026.

The initiative aims to strengthen dialogue between the business community and regulators, providing a platform for businesses to discuss challenges, share experiences and contribute towards a more responsive and business-friendly regulatory environment.

Focusing On Digitalisation And Regulatory Efficiency

The event will examine a number of developments affecting Malta’s business landscape, including legislative amendments, the Malta Business Wallet, the Youth Enterprise Framework and BAROS.

A central objective is to identify opportunities to improve regulatory processes, enhance service delivery and reduce administrative burdens on businesses.

The initiative has previously served as a forum for translating feedback from the business community into practical solutions.

One example is the Malta Business Wallet, which emerged from discussions held through this initiative and will feature prominently in this year’s programme.

Attendees will have the opportunity to see a live demonstration of the Malta Business Wallet, providing insight into the digital initiative and its role in supporting more efficient interactions between businesses and regulatory authorities.

The demonstration will be delivered by Vanessa Azzopardi, Senior Manager within the MBR’s International Cooperation Unit and Geoffrey Buhagiar, Senior Analyst within its Intelligence Management Unit.

Bringing Business Leaders And Regulators Together

The event will begin with opening remarks by Silvio Schembri, Minister for the Economy, Technology and Strategic Projects, followed by addresses from William Spiteri Bailey, President of The Malta Chamber and Dr Geraldine Spiteri Lucas, CEO and Registrar of the Malta Business Registry.

Annalise Zammit, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Registrar at the MBR, will then deliver a presentation examining key regulatory developments.

A central part of the programme will be a fireside discussion featuring Dr Geraldine Spiteri Lucas and Dr Marthese Portelli, CEO of The Malta Chamber.

Moderated by Rachel Bondi Attard, Head of Media and Communications Strategist at The Malta Chamber, the discussion will provide an opportunity to explore the relationship between regulatory requirements and business needs.

The programme will also include a presentation and discussion on the Youth Enterprise Framework, led by Dr Dorita Cardona, Head of Legal and Enforcement at the MBR.

Supporting A More Agile Business Environment

As businesses continue to adapt to technological developments and changing regulatory requirements, the event will provide an opportunity to examine how digital tools and more efficient administrative processes can support enterprise operations.

By encouraging direct engagement between regulators and businesses, the initiative seeks to identify practical improvements that can contribute to a more agile regulatory framework.

Participants will also have the opportunity to contribute ideas and highlight areas where further improvements could support Malta’s competitiveness and business environment.

The event will conclude with closing remarks and a networking lunch, offering attendees an additional opportunity to engage with representatives from the business and regulatory communities.
