The Central Bank of Malta hosted representatives from the Treasury Department of the World Bank Group on 26th and 27th October 2026 for talks on reserve management, the bank said in a statement on 2 November.
Officials from both institutions used the two days to share views and experiences across a range of subjects linked to how reserves are managed. According to the Central Bank, these included governance and investment, strategic asset allocation, portfolio management and risk management.
The bank said the meetings gave both sides a chance to discuss developments and practices in the management of financial assets. They also allowed each institution to pass on knowledge and expertise in areas of common interest.
The Central Bank described the visit as a reflection of its continuing engagement with the World Bank Group in the field of reserve management.
Reserve management covers how a central bank holds and invests the financial assets it keeps in reserve, with decisions weighing returns against risk and the need to keep funds available. The subjects raised during the visit, from governance and strategic asset allocation to portfolio and risk management, sit at the core of that work.
The visit was one of a number of exchanges the Central Bank of Malta maintains with international bodies on the handling of financial assets. The statement did not name the individual representatives who took part or set out any further meetings planned between the two institutions.
The Central Bank is based at Pjazza Kastilja in Valletta. The World Bank Group’s Treasury Department manages the institution’s own financial assets and advises other public bodies on reserve and asset management, work that sat behind the themes covered during the two days of discussions in Malta.
