As part of MeetInc’s special 10-year anniversary documentary series, we sat down with the team behind People & Skin, Malta’s leading med-aesthetic clinic, to explore the values, philosophy, and people that have shaped its journey over the last decade.
Founded by Dr Joanna Delia, People & Skin has become far more than a clinic. “We are specialised in giving confidence,” she says. “It’s a holistic approach. Every relationship with a client is built on trust, care and human connection.” That ethos has remained unchanged since Joanna made the bold leap from the National Health Service into aesthetic medicine in 2004. “I really wanted to put the ‘people’ in People & Skin. Most of our patients don’t just come for a service – they come to express themselves, to boost their confidence, to feel part of a community.”
From the outset, Joanna rejected the idea of growth at all costs. “It’s very easy to think about growth, growth, growth,” she explains, “but with growth you risk losing the personal relationships that make this place special.”
Instead, People & Skin has built its reputation on what she calls the gold standards of medicine. “It’s easy to cut costs for profitability, but we’ve challenged ourselves to stick to our values. We prioritise evidence-based treatments that have stood the test of time – and we never stop learning.”
Every team member attends prestigious international conferences to stay at the cutting edge of the field. That commitment is echoed throughout the clinic. Michelle Degiorgio, People & Skin’s manager, captures the philosophy perfectly: “You create a relationship with each and every client – creating a community is what makes it so special.” Dr Gorana Pecotic builds on that human-centred ethos: “I think it’s all about having a human-to-human connection. My job is to listen and give them what they came for.”And Dr Bernard Galea highlights the clinic’s integrity and patient-centred approach, insisting that their roles requires them to push back against client sometimes. “Every client is different. We can give our recommendations, and ultimately it is up to the client to decide – but we say no quite often actually.”
Central to the clinic’s philosophy is ensuring that clients are well informed about any procedures being considered and their impacts. “Educating the patient is essential,” Joanna stresses. “It builds trust when you explain things step-by-step and guide them towards what truly works.” The results go far beyond the surface. From helping survivors of domestic violence remove traumatic reminders of their past to watching clients walk into their second session with renewed confidence, the transformations are deeply human. “When you remove the association of a scar with trauma, that’s the most incredible thing,” Joanna shares. “We cry together sometimes.”
But perhaps the biggest secret behind People & Skin’s success is its people. “I believe in the team,” Joanna emphasises. “Every individual is valuable, different and unique. They’re more than colleagues – they’re friends you can count on inside and outside of work.” That sense of camaraderie shapes everything from the clinic’s atmosphere – “We create a space that appeals to all the senses” – to the energy that sustains its work. Looking ahead, Joanna’s vision is rooted in refinement, not reinvention. “Going forward means sticking to our core values, fine-tuning them, improving them. Nothing crazy big and different -just listening to each other, growing together and continuing what we’ve built.” For MeetInc, capturing this milestone was about more than telling the story of a successful clinic – it was about celebrating a philosophy that places people, purpose and precision above all else. Here’s to the next decade of confidence, care and community.
