Over 300 graduates marked their academic achievements on the 1st of December 2025 during the Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS) graduation ceremony. The graduates represented various academic levels, ranging from Foundation to Master’s Degree programmes. The event also featured a special moment recognising the Honoris Causa recipients for their valuable contribution to the industry.
Among the highlights of this year’s ceremony was the strong performance in the Certificate in Food Preparation and Service, which saw 57 graduates, the largest cohort of 2025. This was followed by the Diploma in Climate-Friendly Travel, emphasising the growing importance of sustainable practices within the global tourism industry. Other notable cohorts included the Diploma in Food Preparation and Production Operations, the Higher National Diploma in Tourist Guiding, and the Undergraduate Diploma in International Hospitality Management. Approximately 20% of this year’s graduates were international students, reflecting the Institute’s expanding global reach.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Ian Borg, congratulated the class of 2025 and emphasised their crucial role in enhancing Malta’s tourism sector. Dr Borg encouraged the graduates to continue building their careers with confidence and commitment, stating, “You will be shaping the experiences that define Malta’s reputation. Through your dedication to service and sustainability, you have the opportunity to inspire visitors and contribute to an industry that is striving towards a stronger, greener future.” He also recognised the support of ITS academic staff and the families of the graduates, highlighting the collective effort that contributes to each student’s success.
ITS CEO Mr. Pierre Fenech expressed his satisfaction in witnessing so many students reaching this important milestone in their academic journey. He noted with satisfaction that many graduates have chosen to continue their studies at the Institute during the current academic year, and he encouraged all students to pursue their education further. To those who have already embarked on their careers within the ever-growing industry, he extended his best wishes for success. Mr. Fenech also expressed his appreciation to the recipients of the Honoris Causa for their valuable contribution to the world’s first and only Bachelor of Science in Diving Safety Management – a programme that fills ITS with pride and continues to earn international recognition.
This year’s student graduation speech was delivered by Courtney Zammit, who reflected on the opportunities she experienced at ITS, including her one-year international placement in Ireland and her participation in the AEHT competition in Sweden. She spoke about the strong support received from ITS lecturers, the friendships built throughout her studies, and the personal and professional growth that shaped her journey at ITS.
