Inbound Tourism Climbs To 417,000 In October As Visitor Spending Rises Sharply

Malta welcomed an estimated 417,103 inbound tourists in October, an increase of 17.3 per cent compared with the same month last year, according to new figures published by the National Statistics Office. Holiday travel continued to dominate the market, with 384,519 tourists visiting for leisure and a further 23,269 arriving for business purposes. The 45 to 64 age group accounted for the largest share of visitors, followed by those aged 25 to 44. The United Kingdom, Italy and Poland remained Malta’s top tourism markets, together representing more than 41 per cent of all arrivals.

The number of nights spent in Malta rose by 15.7 per cent, reaching approximately 2.6 million nights, with the vast majority spent in rented accommodation. Average length of stay stood at 6.1 nights. Tourist spending continued to climb at an even faster pace, with total expenditure reaching €437.8 million in October, up 22.8 per cent from last year. Average expenditure reached €170.70 per night.

Gozo and Comino also saw strong activity, attracting 235,351 visitors during the month, equivalent to 56.4 per cent of all inbound tourists. This includes both same-day and overnight visitors, underscoring the continued draw of the sister islands.

Performance over the first ten months of the year remained robust. Between January and October, Malta received 3,492,586 inbound tourists, an increase of 12.4 per cent over 2024. Nights spent reached 22.2 million, while total tourism expenditure rose to €3.47 billion, representing annual growth of 19.2 per cent. Average per-capita spending increased to €993 compared to €936 last year. Gozo and Comino attracted nearly 2.06 million visitors over the same period.
