A set of new renders revealing what Malta’s new and improved airport is set to look like has been revealed.
Earlier today, Malta Airport and the Turiżmu Facebook page unveiled its updated €345 million investment programme into “a new terminal, reinforcement of the runways, new technologies and clean energy to continue improving the experience of residents and tourists traveling to and from our country”, showing off what that would look like in a set of mock-ups

The project, which is set to take four years and run from 2025 to 2029, includes the completion of the Apron 8 South expansion, which alone would see MIA’s aircraft parking capacity increase by 40%.
The next big project for the Malta International Airport, however, is its Eastward Expansion, which will see the Departures Lounge being extended by a whopping 6,000 square metres.
This expansion will have introduce everything from more gates and check-in dates to more “circulation space” for passengers set to depart from Malta. The larger lounger will also be directly linked to the Park East multi-storey car park, which is currently ways away by foot.
Beyond these facilities, MIA will also be barrelling towards its net-zero target through a new photovoltaic farm which should more than double the airport’s clean energy production by the third quarter of 2025, along with upgraded energy-efficient HVAC systems.
What do you make of the new plans to expand and improve Malta’s airport? Which part of the project are you looking forward to seeing materialise the most?
