Maltese technology company eCabs Technologies has held discussions with Revolut at the fintech company’s London headquarters, exploring opportunities for further collaboration in the taxi and ride-hailing industry.
The meeting follows several months of collaboration between the two companies’ engineering and product teams, with discussions now extending beyond payment processing to explore wider financial services opportunities within the mobility industry.
Representatives from eCabs Technologies, including John Catania, visited Revolut’s headquarters to discuss the collaboration and potential areas for further development.
The engagement comes as the Maltese company continues expanding internationally by providing technology infrastructure to taxi and ride-hailing businesses.
Rather than operating solely as a transport provider, eCabs Technologies develops software that allows operators to manage bookings, dispatching, drivers, payments and other aspects of their operations.
As part of the ongoing collaboration, Revolut has been integrated as a payment service provider within the eCabs Technologies platform, allowing operators to select it alongside other supported payment providers.
The integration has already gone live with Taxi Fiume in Croatia, with additional taxi and ride-hailing operators expected to follow.
For operators, the new option could translate into lower transaction processing costs, faster payment settlements and greater visibility over financial activity, although the benefits will depend on individual commercial arrangements.
The discussions in London also touched on Revolut’s wider interest in the taxi and ride-hailing sector.
Beyond handling customer transactions, the industry presents opportunities to integrate financial services more directly into the platforms used by drivers and operators.
These could include everyday banking, access to credit and vehicle financing, potentially creating a more integrated financial ecosystem for mobility businesses.
Such developments would reflect a wider trend towards embedded finance, where banking and financial services are increasingly incorporated into the digital platforms through which businesses already operate.
For eCabs Technologies, the discussions provide an opportunity to build on its existing technology offering while strengthening relationships with international financial services providers.
The development also reflects the company’s evolution from its roots in Malta’s transport sector into a technology business serving mobility operators in international markets.
While the immediate collaboration centres on payment processing, the discussions suggest potential for further innovation in the financial infrastructure supporting taxi and ride-hailing services.
The meeting represents another step in eCabs Technologies’ international activities as the company continues developing its platform and working with partners across the mobility and financial services sectors.
