Odyssey Malta has officially put the island on the global attractions map, winning one of the world’s most prestigious entertainment technology honours at the AV Awards 2025 in London. The immersive attraction, located within the landmark Mercury Towers development in St Julian’s, was crowned Themed Entertainment and Attractions Project of the Year, beating major international contenders including SeaWorld San Diego, the New Jersey Hall of Fame Entertainment Center, the National Gallery, and Puy du Fou España.
The award was secured by Sarner International, Odyssey Malta’s creative and technical partner, whose design and delivery of the attraction were singled out by judges for setting a new benchmark in immersive storytelling. The panel praised the project’s seamless blending of narrative, cutting-edge AV systems, and emotional impact — a combination that places Malta at the forefront of global experiential entertainment.
Odyssey Malta offers a two-part journey through the islands’ history and identity. Guests begin with a multi-sensory “dark walk” that uses sound, lighting, and vivid scenography to transport visitors through Malta’s mythology, ancient past, and pivotal wartime moments. The experience culminates in a breathtaking 5D flying theatre, Malta’s first of its kind, featuring a 6-degrees-of-freedom motion platform, 8K projection, wind effects, scents, and atmospheric detail. Suspended before a 10-metre spherical screen, visitors soar over iconic landscapes, limestone cliffs, and neon city views in a deeply immersive finale.
The attraction is housed within Mercury Towers, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, making it not just a cultural destination but part of one of Malta’s most ambitious architectural projects. The AV Award win represents a major milestone for the development and for Malta’s entertainment and tourism industries, signalling that the island can deliver world-class, high-tech visitor experiences that compete with global leaders.
“We are extremely proud that Odyssey Malta has been recognised at such a prestigious global event,” said CEO Marcel Bonnici. “Winning Themed Entertainment and Attractions Project of the Year is an incredible honour and validates our commitment to innovation, creativity, and delivering unforgettable experiences to every visitor.”
Following this international recognition, Odyssey Malta is set to attract increased attention from tourists, industry professionals, and families seeking unique cultural adventures. The attraction continues to position Malta as a rising force in immersive entertainment and experiential design.
