JPMorgan Chase has achieved a landmark milestone in financial innovation, becoming the first major bank to tokenize a private equity fund on its proprietary blockchain platform, Kinexys Fund Flow, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The move marks the first instance of a private equity vehicle being digitised by a global bank, enabling JPMorgan’s private wealth clients to hold digital tokens representing ownership stakes in the fund. These blockchain-based units are designed to simplify access, settlement, and recordkeeping for alternative investments — traditionally one of the least liquid and most administratively complex asset classes.
The launch forms part of JPMorgan’s broader plan to roll out the Kinexys platform more widely in 2026, expanding tokenization to real estate, infrastructure, and private credit.
Tokenization — the process of representing real-world assets as digital tokens on a blockchain — is rapidly transforming how institutions handle alternative assets, improving efficiency while potentially lowering barriers to entry for investors.
The timing aligns with a broader wave of institutional adoption of blockchain solutions following the U.S. Genius Act, which established new rules for stablecoins and provided long-awaited regulatory clarity for digital assets.
Other major banks including Goldman Sachs and BNY Mellon have also recently launched tokenization projects, focusing on money-market funds managed by BlackRock and Fidelity, intensifying competition to lead the next phase of digital asset infrastructure.
By moving first on private equity tokenization, JPMorgan positions itself at the forefront of a rapidly evolving landscape where fund managers and investors are seeking faster settlement times, enhanced transparency, and lower administrative costs.
If successful, the Kinexys platform could pave the way for broader investor participation in private markets, bridging traditional finance and blockchain technology — and marking one of the clearest signs yet that digital transformation is reshaping the core mechanics of global capital markets.
