Two new flight routes are now connecting Malta to Northern Europe, just as airport traffic reaches record levels.
Malta International Airport has launched direct flights to Helsinki and Stuttgart, expanding its summer network. The Helsinki route, operated by Norwegian Airlines, will run every Wednesday, with additional Friday flights scheduled for July and August. It marks the return of this connection after a six-year break.
The Stuttgart route is entirely new and is being operated by Eurowings on Tuesdays and Sundays. Both additions are expected to contribute to the island’s growing tourism and outbound travel sectors.
The announcement comes after a strong month for the airport, which handled 927,709 passengers in May. That represents an 8.1 percent increase compared to last year. The airport also reported a seat load factor of 84.9 percent, indicating continued high demand for travel to and from Malta.
The United Kingdom remained Malta’s top tourism market, followed by Italy, Germany, Poland and France. Poland saw the sharpest growth, with traffic rising by 35.8 percent compared to May 2024. The increase was driven by more frequent flights from Warsaw and the arrival of a new airline operating on the route.
As summer begins, Malta’s connectivity to key European cities appears to be gaining further momentum.
