Born ten years ago, from a desire for true beauty and excellence, People and Skin is today one of the country’s top Med-Aesthetic clinics, known for its high-end services, equipment and charismatic, professionally trained staff.
MeetInc, Malta and Gozo’s newest online business platform interviewed founder Dr Joanna Delia about her business career, her take on limitless growth, its pitfalls and the changes she wishes to see in her sector and the country.
Dr Delia explains that her decision to leave the company she was working at to set up shop alone was initially a daunting prospect but one that felt organic and necessary. One of the biggest motivators for leaving ‘traditional’ employment, she says, was her realisation that the energy she was spending on being heard and seen could be better utilised in helping make people feel better.
As the interview progresses it becomes apparent that Joanna was never one that would easily mould into a traditional work environment. She wants to do things her own way, even if that means learning from failures. By the time she started running her clinic, Dr Delia already had ten years of experience in the industry under her belt, and simply refused to give in to complacency. “I had not thought myself capable, but with a lot of lessons learnt, it’s great to be able to make all your own decisions”.
Today Joanna, shares a somewhat different take on life and growth when compared to a lot of other business owners. A fact she attributes in large part to her not being on a constant pursuit of limitless growth, instead finding an endless curiosity and life balance to be the real secrets to happy life.
“I hate seeing workaholics who neglect their health, themselves, their families and friends, and the environment for growth. I find a lot of female entrepreneurs say they take less risk but it’s more about a deeper understanding of life”. Speaking about her personal growth, Dr Delia said that “in ten years, I want to diversify my thought processes and my levels of excitement, rather than more growing graphs”.
Fifteen years after opening the clinic, Dr Delia reaffirms her ever-present love for what she does and her field. “We are using science to help us with an organ of our body; our skin. The way we look affects our mind”.
Clearly a person with a go getter, optimistic take on life, something that has held her in good stead over the years, she is extremely proud not only of her accomplishments but of the great reputation that Malta’s medical sector boasts on the international scene, but shares her concern that a complacent attitude towards enforcement and the lack of updated regulation could see this reputation suffer irrevocable damage.
