In the latest interview with MeetInc, Malta’s premier business directory, Sandro Attard, General Manager of Quad Central, discussed the project’s trailblazing achievements as the island’s first LEED Platinum-certified development. Attard shared insights into the vision, innovation, and sustainable practices that have made Quad Central a benchmark for eco-conscious urban development.
Transforming Malta’s Urban Landscape
Quad Central’s LEED Platinum certification places it among the top 10% of sustainable buildings globally. “To achieve LEED Platinum certification, a project needs 80 credits. Quad Central went above and beyond, securing 87 credits,” said Attard. This milestone highlights the development’s dedication to innovation, efficiency, and environmental stewardship.
Attard explained key features that earned the certification:
Water Efficiency: A greywater treatment plant recycles domestic wastewater for irrigation and flushing, significantly reducing reliance on Malta’s limited water resources and easing strain on government sewer systems.
• Energy Innovation: The vertical integration of photovoltaic panels on the façade sets a new standard for optimising energy generation in land-constrained Malta. “By showing that vertical PV integration is possible, we’re proving that innovation doesn’t have to come at the expense of space,” Attard noted.
• Community Focus: Green spaces, pedestrian zones, and bicycle commuter facilities—complete with covered parking and showers—underscore the project’s commitment to enhancing tenant and visitor wellbeing.
More Than Just an Office Block
Quad Central redefines the concept of a workplace by merging work, leisure, and community. “Quad Central is not your typical office block or shopping mall,” said Attard. “We aim to combine everyday activities with work in one cohesive space. It’s about creating an experience.”
From childcare facilities and gyms to retail outlets and dining options, Quad Central offers an all-encompassing lifestyle destination. “Fifty per cent of the area is open to the public, inviting everyone to engage with this space, not just our office tenants,” Attard emphasised.
Leading the Way in Malta’s Business District
Situated in Malta’s Central Business District, Quad Central exemplifies a broader effort to transform the area from an industrial zone into a modern, eco-conscious hub. “Before, this was an industrial area. Now, it’s an upscale environment offering businesses and the public a greener, pedestrian-friendly space,” Attard remarked.
Quad Central’s success aligns with Malta’s aspirations for sustainable development and economic growth. “LEED certification not only enhances operational efficiency but strengthens the reputation of businesses associated with it. This project is a statement of Malta’s ability to achieve world-class standards,” Attard added.
Built to Endure
Attard stressed the importance of long-term planning and adaptability in sustainable development. “LEED projects require significant upfront investment, but they are cost-effective to operate and benefit tenants by reducing expenses,” he explained. “Quad Central wasn’t built with a short-term view. It’s designed to stand the test of time and evolve to meet the needs of its users and the environment.”
As Malta continues its rapid urban growth, Quad Central serves as a model for balancing economic progress with environmental responsibility. “We’re building something that lasts, not just for today but for future generations,” Attard concluded.
Through MeetInc’s platform, Sandro Attard’s insights offer a compelling narrative of how innovation, sustainability, and community can shape the future of Malta’s urban environment. Quad Central’s achievements demonstrate the power of vision and collaboration in creating spaces that benefit both people and the planet.
