Malta’s commitment to workplace diversity and inclusion continues to strengthen, with the Malta Diversity & Inclusion Charter now covering more than 30,000 employees across the economy.
The Charter has recently welcomed seven new signatories: JobsPlus, DHL Express Malta, Crane Authentication, Calamatta Cuschieri, Phoenix Wise Solutions Malta, Qawra Palace Resort & Spa, and the Superintendent for Cultural Heritage. With these additions, the total number of participating organisations has risen to 71 in less than two years, spanning all major sectors in Malta.
The Malta Diversity & Inclusion Charter forms part of the EU Platform of Diversity Charters, a European Commission-facilitated network bringing together 27 national charters. Across the European Union, the platform represents more than 17,000 organisations employing over 17 million people, creating a framework for sharing best practices, tools and experiences on inclusive employment.
To mark this milestone, CORE Platform, in collaboration with the Central Bank of Malta, hosted the third exclusive gathering for Charter signatories on 4 December 2025.
In his opening address, Central Bank Governor Professor Edward Scicluna outlined the Bank’s institutional commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion. He described a structured approach that began with the adoption of an EDI policy in 2021, followed by the signing of the ESCB and SSM EDI Charter in 2022, the launch of a dedicated EDI strategy in 2023, and the Bank’s signing of the Malta Diversity & Inclusion Charter in 2025.
Governor Scicluna said these measures reflect a long-term effort to embed respect, integrity and awareness into workplace culture, rather than simply fulfilling procedural requirements.
Following the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the event also featured a presentation by the Lino Spiteri Foundation focusing on supported employment and supported business models, highlighting practical pathways to more inclusive participation in the workforce.
A key highlight of the gathering was the launch of CORE Platform’s latest awareness project, a short film titled The Power of Diversity & Inclusion. Co-funded by the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector, the video is designed as a practical tool for Charter signatories to encourage discussion during induction and team-building activities. It addresses themes such as age, disability, gender and sexual orientation, with the aim of reducing unconscious bias and fostering open dialogue.
The gathering concluded with a guided tour of the Central Bank’s Currency Museum and a networking reception, reinforcing the Charter’s emphasis on collaboration, shared learning and sustained progress in workplace inclusion.
