The Malta Business Network (MBN) has announced the launch of a new international entrepreneurship prize in collaboration with King’s College London and the University of Malta, aimed at sparking sustainable business ideas from the next generation of innovators.

The MBN International Entrepreneurship Prize is a virtual idea-generation challenge open exclusively to postgraduate students enrolled in the MSc Strategic Entrepreneurship & Innovation at King’s College London and the MEnt Knowledge-Based Entrepreneurship at the University of Malta.

Participants will have the opportunity to generate business ideas, collaborate across borders, and develop ventures that address global challenges. The competition encourages proposals aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, with a focus on projects that can create tangible, positive impact in both the UK and Malta.

The prize offers top-tier mentorship from established business leaders, cross-cultural collaboration experience, and the chance to present ideas to real-world judging panels. A total prize pot of £3,000 is up for grabs, including a £500 ‘People’s Choice’ award sponsored by BNF Bank.

“This initiative is about spotlighting young talent with the potential to shape the future of business and sustainability,” said David Walsh, organiser of the MBN International Entrepreneurship Prize. “By connecting students with seasoned mentors and encouraging bold, socially responsible thinking, we hope to inspire viable startups that make a difference.”

Founded in 2011 at the Malta High Commission in London, the Malta Business Network today boasts nearly 400 members and operates active chapters in both the UK and Malta, promoting entrepreneurship, networking, and cross-border collaboration.

The competition aligns with Malta’s growing push to establish itself as a regional startup hub, complementing national efforts such as the Start in Malta initiative.

Mentors supporting the competition include Corinne Montefort, Jamie Moore, Katrina Attard, Nick Xuereb, George Amato, and Biju Menon. The judging panel will consist of Deborah Webster, Chris Curmi, and Sarah Grech.

Judging will focus on two main criteria: the potential for impact — particularly in the UK and Malta — and the quality of innovation, assessing whether the proposed ventures introduce credible, feasible technologies or business models to solve real-world problems.
