The Kamra tal-Periti has officially launched the prestigious event, which aims to recognize excellence across a wide spectrum of disciplines within the profession.

In line with the diverse skill set of the profession, the Kamra’s awards will not only focus on architectural design but will also highlight outstanding work in civil and structural engineering, urban regeneration, and interior spaces. The aim is to showcase the breadth of the profession and honor the many facets that contribute to its strength.

The premju Emanuele Luigi Galizia aims to give peer-reviewed recognition awarded to architects and specialists who distinguish themselves within the sector. The award seeks to uphold the profession’s core values, emphasizing quality and a deep appreciation of architectural excellence.

In a tribute to Malta’s architectural heritage, the award is named after the prominent architect and civil engineer Emanuele Luigi Galizia. Galizia is best known for iconic structures such as the Sta. Marija Addolorata Cemetery and the Turkish Cemetery, yet he was equally influential as a civil engineer. His work bridges the gap between traditional architectural practices rooted in Renaissance and Baroque styles and modern requirements.

His use of limestone, a staple of Maltese architecture, showcased his ability to remain innovative while respecting tradition. The Kamra tal-Periti believes these “timeless” qualities are the ones their award should be associated with—craftsmanship that combines tradition with a forward-looking approach.

The Premju Emanuele Luigi Galizia is positioned to become a symbol of architectural and engineering excellence in Malta, an award that professionals will strive to attain as a hallmark of quality and respect within the industry.
