Iranian Revolutionary Guard Closes Strait Of Hormuz Amid Escalating Tensions

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps’ navy announced on Sunday that it had closed the Strait of Hormuz after several ships attempted to pass through the strategic waterway. A warning shot fired at the vessels struck and stopped one of the ships, according to a statement posted on Telegram and state media reports.

The closure is in place until further notice and until the end of America’s interventions in the region, with no vessel permitted to pass through. The statement warned that any “new act of aggression against us” would be met with a severe response, including targeting new enemy bases in the region.

The Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and is a critical waterway for global oil supplies. Its closure has significant implications for major shipping lanes, which carry oil from Iraq, Iran and other regional producers. The move follows a series of incidents involving US naval vessels operating in the region, with tensions between the two countries escalating.

International traders and shipping companies are closely monitoring developments, concerned that the situation may escalate further. With global oil prices already under pressure due to supply chain disruptions and rising demand, a prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz could have significant economic implications for major economies around the world.
