The HSBC Malta Foundation has donated a vehicle to the RISe Foundation in support of Malta’s first rehabilitation and reintegration programme specifically designed for female offenders. The van will play a critical role in facilitating daily operations, helping residents access essential services such as education, healthcare, therapy sessions, and community-based activities.
Dr Paula Mamo, Deputy Chairperson of the HSBC Malta Foundation, emphasised the broader importance of the initiative: “Rehabilitation is not just about reform — it’s about restoring dignity, unlocking potential, and creating safer communities. Through this donation, we are proud to support RISe Foundation’s pioneering work and the women who are determined to rebuild their lives with courage and purpose.”
Matthew Degiorgio, Education Coordinator at RISe, expressed appreciation for the support, highlighting how it not only meets logistical needs but also reinforces the foundation’s belief in second chances: “It empowers us to continue walking alongside individuals with complex, often traumatic pasts, guiding them to reshape their futures in ways that benefit both themselves and society.”
RISe Foundation Chairperson Charlie Mifsud noted that the female programme offers a structured, supportive environment for women nearing the end of their prison sentences, focusing on comprehensive rehabilitation to reduce the risk of reoffending. “Without adequate support, those leaving prison face a much higher likelihood of returning to criminal behaviour, which can lead to further harm and pose risks to public safety,” he said.
This donation forms part of the HSBC Malta Foundation’s broader commitment to fostering social inclusion and supporting vulnerable communities across Malta.
