HSBC Malta has announced that its headquarters in Qormi, known as HSBC Hub, has been awarded LEED ID+C Gold certification, marking a significant milestone in the bank’s sustainability efforts.
LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is one of the most widely recognised green building certification programmes globally. The Gold certification highlights the project’s performance across key areas including energy efficiency, water usage, materials selection, indoor environmental quality and overall sustainability standards.
The achievement reflects a collaborative effort between HSBC employees and project partners, who worked closely to ensure that sustainability and quality remained central throughout the development of the site.
Jonathan Taylor, Country Head of Corporate Services at HSBC Malta, described the certification as a strong endorsement of the approach taken. He noted that the outcome demonstrates the value of maintaining a consistent focus on both environmental performance and workplace quality.
HSBC Malta CEO Geoffrey Fichte also commented on the milestone, stating that the certification underlines what can be achieved through a unified effort with clear objectives. He added that the recognition reinforces the bank’s commitment to responsible operations in Malta and to creating environments that benefit employees, customers and the wider community.
Beyond its environmental credentials, HSBC Hub provides a range of practical features designed to enhance the day-to-day experience for both staff and customers. These include free on-site parking, electric vehicle charging points, and plans to expand charging infrastructure in the coming months.
The branch located within HSBC Hub also offers extended opening hours compared to other locations, including Saturday operations, improving accessibility for both retail and commercial clients.
HSBC Malta has confirmed that an official hard-copy LEED certificate has been received. The bank plans to commemorate the achievement with the installation of a LEED Gold plaque at its Qormi premises.
