Ebejer Bonnici has been awarded the prestigious Premju Galizia Emerging Practice award by Kamra tal-Periti. Founded in 2022 by Anthony Bonnici and Karl Ebejer, the studio has quickly made its mark both in Malta and internationally, delivering over thirty projects spanning residential, hospitality, and cultural installations. The international jury of leading architects praised the studio’s clarity of thought, commitment to Maltese building culture, and a design approach that combines rigorous construction with a keen sense of place.
Reflecting on the award, the studio stated:
We are deeply honoured to receive the Premju Galizia Emerging Practice award from Kamra tal-Periti. This recognition holds special meaning for us, not only as a milestone for our studio but as an affirmation that architecture in Malta can operate with ambition, depth, and cultural relevance.
From the beginning, our work has been guided by the conviction that architecture is not simply about form or aesthetics, but about constructing meaning; about building places that reflect who we are and what we value. We believe that buildings can carry the weight of ideas, that material can speak, and that space can shape how we understand ourselves in the world.
As a studio, we have tried to work with rigour and sincerity, embracing the friction between tradition and invention that defines our context. We see each project as an open question, a chance to explore how contemporary architecture can emerge from within the fabric of Malta rather than be imposed upon it.
This award belongs to our team, whose precision and commitment make the work possible, and to the clients and collaborators who have placed their trust in us. It is both a recognition and a responsibility: to continue building thoughtfully, to remain curious, and to keep searching for architecture that is both essential and alive.
The founders emphasized their approach of balancing tradition and innovation, exploring how contemporary architecture can grow organically from Malta’s unique context rather than being imposed upon it. They also acknowledged the collaborative effort behind their work: “This award belongs to our team, whose precision and commitment make the work possible, and to our clients and collaborators who have placed their trust in us. It is both a recognition and a responsibility: to continue building thoughtfully, to remain rigorous, and to contribute work of lasting value to the islands and beyond.”
