CodeSprintMT 2025, Malta’s national coding competition, has officially wrapped its biggest edition yet, celebrating a diverse group of winners across secondary, post-secondary, and professional categories. Why this matters for Malta.
The competition is intensely personal. It’s you versus the challenge, your skills against the clock. Unlike traditional assessments, it redefines how we gauge ability. It doesn’t measure theory, it measures impact. Under real pressure, real talent rises. And the sense of community, confidence, and connection it builds continues long after the competition ends.
“CodeSprintMT represents everything we’re working toward in education,” says Josmar Borg from the Directorate for STEM & VET Programmes. “It was about thinking differently, solving problems creatively, and building the skills that will define Malta’s economic future.”
This wasn’t just about winning. It was about growing. This year’s competition created space for confidence to rise, networks to form, and skills to go from good to great.
“We saw participants challenge themselves and grow throughout the experience,” notes Matthew Sammut. “Parents discovered new sides of their children’s potential, and participants realized they were capable of more than they imagined.”
Voices from the community.
This year’s feedback? Raw, real, and full of energy.
“This is the second time that I joined CodeSprint, this time competing in the Open Category,” shares participant Liam Schembri. “The stakes were definitely higher this year, and I really enjoyed the atmosphere, meeting new people whilst under pressure to create a high-quality prototype. Will definitely join again next year!”
Guardians felt it too:
“Exceptional. You exceeded all expectations at every level. The parent info session was a brilliant touch. You didn’t just create a competition, you created an experience.”
“This was a new opportunity for our son to enjoy coding in a different environment. He really enjoyed it. As a parent, I consider these platforms incredibly beneficial.”
Participants called it transformational:
“A huge motivator. The best environment to test yourself and build something real.”
“It was a wake-up call to be faster, more nimble, and to make better use of tools like AI.”
And for Jean Claude Farrugia, Post-Secondary Category winner:
“CodeSprint was impeccable, truly a fun and memorable experience! Every student studying computing should experience this.”
Malta’s leading brands, united.
The 2025 edition wouldn’t have been possible without massive backing from industry. This wasn’t just a competition. It was a statement of intent from Malta’s community. Title sponsors Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA) and MeDirect Bank Malta led the way, joined by community partners PwC Malta, Melita, and Knights College, experience sponsors Bolt Business and J’Oli, plus supporting sponsors Tech.mt, Xjenza Malta, Cisco Networking Academy, 9H Digital, Logicom, NGU Technologies and iCentre. Media partners Lovin Malta, Meet Inc., and Times of Malta helped amplify the impact across the islands.
“This wasn’t just about showing up with a logo,” said Matthew Sammut. “These partners helped elevate the entire experience and showed what’s possible when the whole ecosystem gets behind the next generation.”
One community partner put it simply:
“The event truly exceeded my expectations. I could see how much it meant to the finalists and the winners. The setup, the atmosphere, the people – it was really special.”
Relive the moments.
What made CodeSprintMT 2025 special wasn’t just the coding. It was the people. The conversations. The quiet confidence gained. The laughs shared over a challenge. The support from parents, the guidance from mentors, and the spark between people who had just met. Watch the highlight reel and feel the community.
Looking ahead: CodeSprintMT 2026.
