Creative tech firm 9H has appointed Mauro Pirrone as its new Chief of AI, launching a dedicated division focused on building safe, scalable, and explainable AI systems designed to solve real business challenges.
The move signals a strategic shift for the Malta-based company, which is positioning itself at the forefront of a new phase in artificial intelligence—one that moves beyond experimentation and hype toward execution and business value.
Rather than relying on off-the-shelf tools, 9H’s new AI division will develop compound AI agents—intelligent, interconnected systems capable of forecasting, planning, adapting, and automating key business processes.
Pirrone, who previously co-founded UMNAI and served as its Chief Software Architect, brings a strong track record in neuro-symbolic and explainable AI. His work at UMNAI led to more than 20 co-invented patents and earned international recognition, including the WIPO IP Award for Technological Innovation and a spot in the EIC Scaling Club.
“AI is moving fast, which means business needs are moving faster,” said Pirrone. “At 9H, we’re not just deploying algorithms—we’re building intelligent agents that help businesses scale, simplify, and stay ahead.”
9H CEO Benji Borg said Pirrone’s appointment marks a new chapter for the company, as it aims to help mid-sized and growth-stage businesses harness AI in practical, results-driven ways. “We’re building intelligent systems that aren’t just technically powerful, but business ready,” Borg said. “This is about moving beyond the AI buzz and focusing on what really matters: results.”
With the new division in place, 9H says it will partner closely with clients to design tailored AI strategies that directly support operational efficiency, growth, and adaptability in today’s fast-moving markets.
