A 60-acre private island in Greece’s northern Aegean has come to market for 35 million euros (roughly $40 million), marking the first time the property has been offered for sale since the same family acquired it in 1961.

Argyronisos, also known as Silver Island, sits in the sheltered Gulf of Pteleos just off the northern coast of Evia and has been listed exclusively by Engel & Völkers Greece. Eleven stone buildings are set naturally into the landscape, among them a main house, a two-storey villa, a traditional stone cottage, a caretaker’s residence, several smaller buildings and a historic Greek Orthodox chapel. Ancient olive trees, cypress groves, secluded coves and private beaches account for much of the remaining grounds, with a deep-water dock and helipad providing straightforward access for private boats and aircraft.

The development was first reported by Robbreport. As Robb Report notes, privately held Greek islands with existing homes and full infrastructure are genuinely rare. The country counts thousands of islands, but the vast majority are either publicly owned or protected, making Argyronisos a relatively unusual proposition in the European luxury property market.

The island has operated largely off the grid throughout its ownership, drawing primarily on solar power and sustaining an organic olive farm alongside its residential use. It has never functioned as a large commercial resort, remaining first and foremost a private family estate, though in more recent years it has hosted small wellness retreats and quietly welcomed entrepreneurs, artists and other guests seeking complete seclusion.

George Petras, chief executive of Engel & Völkers Greece, described the property as defined by six decades of careful stewardship, total autonomy and absolute privacy rather than by extensive development, positioning it among the most distinctive trophy assets currently available along the European coastline.

The brokerage also notes there is scope for future development subject to local planning approvals, which may appeal to buyers looking to expand the existing infrastructure over time.

Argyronisos sits roughly 50 minutes from Athens by helicopter and is accessible by private boat from the mainland. Its location places it within easy reach of the Sporades archipelago, including Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonnisos, giving any future owner a well-positioned base for sailing the northern Aegean.
