Bolt’s year-long partnership with Malta’s National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) has supported over 1,700 blood donations through the provision of more than 3,400 free rides, highlighting the role of private-sector logistics in enhancing public health outcomes.
Launched in June 2023, the collaboration was designed to eliminate a key friction point in blood donation: transport. By offering free Bolt rides to and from the G’Mangia donation centre, the initiative has expanded access to donors who may otherwise have been discouraged by logistical constraints.
“The success of this partnership demonstrates how private mobility services can create measurable public value,” said a Bolt Malta spokesperson. “By addressing transport as a barrier, we’ve enabled thousands of contributions to Malta’s healthcare system and demonstrated a replicable model of impact-driven service.”
The partnership aligns with Bolt’s broader ESG goals and offers a case study in how technology-led firms can integrate public good into platform operations.
Dr Monique Debattista, Medical Director at NBTS, said the collaboration had become a key enabler in the country’s donation strategy. “This isn’t just a convenience—it’s a structural solution. Bolt’s support has broadened our reach, particularly among younger and first-time donors,” she noted.
The programme will remain active, with both entities confirming their intent to maintain and build on the model in the months ahead.
