This figure also surpasses the previous high of 951,861 passengers recorded in July 2024 by 3.3%, solidifying August as the airport’s busiest month to date.

Italy continued to be the most popular destination for travelers, followed by the United Kingdom. Germany rose to third place, overtaking France, while Spain reclaimed its position as the fifth most popular destination, overtaking Poland for the first time since February 2024.
In the first eight months of 2024, Malta International Airport welcomed a total of 6.0 million passengers, representing a significant 16.3% increase from the 5.16 million passengers recorded during the same period in 2023. These milestones highlight the airport’s growing appeal and its pivotal role in the region’s tourism and business travel sectors.
MIA credits this growth to increased flight connectivity, expanded airline partnerships, and the continued recovery of global travel post-pandemic. Looking ahead, the airport is optimistic about maintaining this upward trend as it gears up for the upcoming autumn and winter seasons.
