SOCIOS.COM LAUNCHES FIRST-EVER US FAN TOKENS WITH FIVE UNIVERSITY ATHLETIC PROGRAMMES

Socios.com has entered the United States sports market for the first time, announcing Fan Token partnerships with five major university athletic programmes: LSU, the University of Maryland, Michigan State University, Penn State University and Texas A&M University. The agreements, announced on 21st July 2026, mark the first deployment of Fan Tokens in college sports anywhere in the world.

The deals were brokered by Fan Token Management US, part of The Chiliz Group, alongside sports revenue specialist Playfly Sports. Socios.com plans to expand the programme to 30 university athletic departments within the next 12 months, with the scale-up designed to generate the same network effects that have made the platform’s global partnerships so commercially durable.

The launch follows joint guidance issued by the SEC and CFTC in March 2026, which cited Socios.com directly and classified its Fan Tokens as digital collectibles and digital tools. That regulatory clarity opened the door to the US market, where the platform had previously been unable to operate. Socios.com already partners with more than 70 sports organisations globally, among them Arsenal, Manchester City, FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.

Fan Tokens are utility tokens that give supporters voting rights on fan-focused decisions, access to exclusive experiences and rewards tied to their chosen institution. For the US collegiate version, a meaningful share of token sale revenue will flow into NIL programmes supporting student-athletes across each university’s full athletic department. Playfly Sports will administer those NIL activations in compliance with NCAA and conference rules, while Socios.com contributes the token revenue rather than operating an NIL fund directly. All funding flows are recorded on-chain, giving alumni and supporters transparent visibility over how their engagement translates into athlete support.

Alexandre Dreyfus, CEO and founder of Chiliz and Socios.com, called the United States the most important sports market in the world and described college sport as one of the most passionately supported fandoms globally. Craig Sloan, CEO of Playfly Sports, said the partnership gives universities an innovative new commercial avenue alongside deeper fan engagement and predicted strong appetite from additional institutions as the ecosystem grows.

Socios.com intends to work closely with its university partners following this summer’s FIFA World Cup to finalise the tokenomics and specific characteristics of the first US Fan Tokens, with a planned launch before the end of 2026.
