Lidl Malta has announced the opening of a new store in Qormi this June, further strengthening its presence across Malta and continuing its long-term growth strategy within the local retail market.
The new outlet forms part of Lidl Malta’s steady expansion over the past years, with the company growing from three stores in 2008 to 12 stores by 2026. The development reflects Lidl’s continued investment in the Maltese market and its commitment to increasing accessibility for consumers across different regions.
Lidl Malta currently employs more than 550 people locally, with every new store opening creating an average of over 30 new jobs. The Qormi outlet is expected to contribute further to employment opportunities while supporting the company’s operational growth.
The retailer also emphasised the role its expansion plays in supporting the local economy through partnerships with Maltese suppliers. Lidl Malta now works with more than 30 local producers, strengthening the presence of Maltese products within its supply chain and across store shelves.
Alongside commercial growth, the company continues to invest in social initiatives and community support programmes. Through its ‘Feed It Back’ initiative, launched in 2024, Lidl Malta has donated approximately 55 tonnes of food – equivalent to close to 182,000 meals – in collaboration with food support organisations and other community initiatives.
The new Qormi store will feature a total footprint of approximately 7,000 square metres, including a 1,500 square metre sales area and around 500 metres of shelving space.
The opening marks another step in Lidl Malta’s broader strategy focused on retail expansion, local collaboration and long-term investment in Malta.
