Camilleri Preziosi has announced that Donald Vella will become Managing Partner on 1 January 2027, succeeding Louis de Gabriele in a transition the Maltese law firm describes as planned and long in the making.
De Gabriele made the announcement at an internal staff event held last Friday evening, giving the firm's lawyers and staff more than two years' notice before Vella formally takes over. That level of advance public disclosure is notable in professional services, where succession arrangements are often handled quietly and with far less lead time.
De Gabriele is not departing. The firm confirmed he will remain at Camilleri Preziosi, continuing to advise clients and mentor lawyers after the handover. That framing of continuity over clean break appears deliberate, and the extended runway before 2027 reinforces it.
The same event marked another milestone: the inauguration of the firm's new Level 5 Suite, a refurbished front-office space at its premises overlooking Marsamxetto Harbour. The firm said the suite consolidates its brand positioning and adds to its client-facing facilities.
Camilleri Preziosi is one of Malta's larger and more established commercial law firms, with a practice covering corporate, finance, and regulatory work. Vella's appointment signals a generational shift in how the partnership is structured, a transition that firms of this standing increasingly face as senior partners approach the later stages of their careers.
The firm characterised the move as a natural step rather than a departure, with continuity placed at the centre of how the changeover has been framed. Whether that framing holds in practice will depend partly on how clients and the broader legal market respond as 2027 approaches, but the decision to announce so far in advance suggests the firm is prioritising stability and transparency in equal measure.
