Betsson Group has signed a lease for 3,000 square metres across the fourth and fifth floors of Málaga’s new Ágora building, establishing its first office in Spain. The space, developed by Grupo Insur and advised by Savills, is being set up as a technology hub centred on gaming, native mobile and artificial intelligence development.

The move is framed as a technology play rather than a commercial or regulatory expansion. Recruitment is already open for software engineers, QA specialists and machine-learning professionals, with the group targeting talent from both Spain and abroad. The technology stack runs on .NET, Kotlin and Swift.

Betsson Operations chief executive Jesper Svensson has drawn a direct comparison between Málaga’s appeal and the qualities that have kept the group anchored in Malta for years. He points to the city’s talent pool, quality of life and Spain’s visa arrangements and cultural ties to Latin America as practical advantages when competing for international hires.

The Ágora building ranks among Málaga’s more prominent recent commercial developments, and Betsson’s decision to take two floors of the scheme underlines the city’s rising profile as a destination for European technology and iGaming operations. The southern Spanish city has built a notable cluster of tech employers in recent years, supported by costs that remain competitive relative to Madrid and Barcelona.

The office opening arrives at a nuanced moment for the group. Betsson reported record revenue in its most recent quarterly results, though EBITDA fell 30.5 per cent as rising gaming taxes across several markets weighed on margins. Building out a dedicated engineering hub in a lower-cost location sits comfortably alongside an operator that is managing margin pressure while continuing to invest in product capability.

With hiring already under way, the Málaga office is expected to become operational in the near term, adding a meaningful presence to Betsson’s existing international network.
