APS Bank has lit its head offices in blue this weekend as part of the 2025 Blue Heart Campaign, an international initiative to raise awareness about human trafficking.
The campaign, running from 28 to 30 July, is led locally by the Human Rights Directorate and the Parliamentary Secretariat for Reforms and Equality, aligning with the United Nations’ global efforts to mark World Day Against Trafficking in Persons on 30 July.
The Blue Heart symbol represents both the sadness of trafficking victims and the cold-heartedness of those who exploit them. This year’s theme, “Human Trafficking is Organised Crime – End the Exploitation”, highlights the role of law enforcement in dismantling trafficking networks while ensuring victim-centred support.
APS Bank’s participation is part of its broader commitment to social responsibility and public awareness. By lighting its buildings, the bank aims to add visibility to a global issue that too often remains hidden in plain sight.
“Supporting the Blue Heart Campaign is one way we can shine a light on the global fight against human trafficking,” said Jeremy Vassallo, CSR Manager at APS Bank. “Lighting our building is a small gesture with a powerful message: we stand in solidarity with victims, survivors, and those working tirelessly to end this crime.”
In recent years, Malta has stepped up its efforts to tackle human trafficking, but challenges remain in areas such as victim identification, cross-border coordination, and support services. Public awareness campaigns like the Blue Heart initiative aim to educate both institutions and individuals on how to recognise and report potential trafficking situations.
For APS Bank, the initiative forms part of a wider approach to corporate citizenship. The bank regularly partners with national and international organisations on social and environmental issues and uses its visibility to amplify critical causes.
The World Day Against Trafficking in Persons was established by the UN to call attention to the millions of people affected by trafficking each year. It also serves to honour those working across borders and sectors to dismantle trafficking operations and support survivors on their path to recovery.
By turning its façade blue this weekend, APS Bank is joining a global call to action — to raise awareness, drive change, and reaffirm that trafficking has no place in society.
