Bank of Valletta plc was the best performing equity on the local market in 2024 as it surged by 21.1% to the €1.72 level.
The positive share price performance during the year led to BOV’s market capitalization to surpass the €1 billion level for the first time.
The shares of BOV were also the most actively traded as €16.8 million worth of shares changed hands throughout 2024, which is 30% of the total value of all trades in local equities during the year. Out of 249 trading days, BOV only failed to trade during 9 sessions, making it also the most consistently traded equity on a daily basis.
In 2024, BOV also listed the single largest corporate bond on the local market of €100 million, which was oversubscribed.
The financial performance of BOV for the 9-month period ended 30 September 2024 was characterised by higher net interest income due to growth in its loan book and investment portfolio. This led to a record level of profits for the period of €147.3 million, which translates into an annualised return on average equity of 14.2%. The full-year results of BOV are typically published in March.
During the year, BOV paid net dividends totalling €0.1055 per share, which is the highest amount ever distributed in a single calendar year.
BOV was also awarded as the Company of the Year for 2024 by the Malta Stock Exchange.
