COLA FOR 2027 COULD REACH €6.41 PER WEEK

According to calculations published on Monday, Spunt.mt have projected that Malta’s Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) for 2027 could reach €6.41 per week.

This would translate into approximately €333 annually for a full-time worker, marking the highest COLA increase since the €12.81 awarded in 2024. For comparison, the adjustment stood at €5.24 in 2025 and €4.66 in 2026.

The projection is based on the standard national formula, which calculates COLA using the 12-month moving average of the Retail Price Index (RPI) up to September. Using figures published by the National Statistics Office (NSO) last week, Spunt.mt estimated the adjustment at €6.40 or €6.41, depending on rounding.

The latest estimate is slightly higher than the figure indicated by Finance Minister Clyde Caruana during a pre-budget event on 6th October. At the time, before the publication of September’s RPI figures, the Minister suggested that COLA would likely be around €5 per week.

Spunt.mt has previously demonstrated accuracy in its projections, correctly forecasting the €5.24 adjustment for 2025 and the €4.66 adjustment for 2026 ahead of their respective budgets.

COLA is paid by employers as part of employees’ wages and also applies to pensions and social benefits.

The official COLA figure for 2027 is expected to be confirmed during the presentation of Budget 2027 on 26th October.
