Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS) has launched its academic prospectus for the 2026–2027 academic year, outlining an expanded range of programmes aimed at meeting the evolving needs of Malta’s tourism and hospitality sector.
The prospectus covers a wide spectrum of qualifications, ranging from foundation-level courses to postgraduate degrees, reflecting the institute’s role in developing talent across different stages of the industry.
Programmes span levels MQF/EQF 2 to 7, including areas such as Culinary Arts, Events Management, International Hospitality Management, Travel and Tourism, and Heritage Interpretation.
The offering also includes more specialised and emerging areas such as Climate-Friendly Travel and Diving Safety Management, highlighting a growing focus on sustainability and niche skills within the sector.
At the higher end of the academic spectrum, ITS continues to offer postgraduate pathways, including MBA-level programmes, aimed at developing leadership within the industry.
The launch comes at a time when the tourism sector is undergoing structural changes, with increasing emphasis on sustainability, digitalisation and experience-driven services.
As Malta continues to position tourism as a key pillar of its economy, education providers such as ITS are playing a central role in aligning workforce skills with industry demands.
The institute said the new prospectus is designed to provide students with a clear pathway into the sector, while also supporting career progression for those already working within it.
In the coming weeks, ITS will host an event for career guidance officers from public, private and church schools, offering further insight into available programmes and potential career opportunities.
Applications for courses starting in September 2026 are open until 10 August, with late applications to be accepted following the publication of MATSEC and SEC resit results.
The prospectus is available online, providing prospective students with detailed information on programme structures, entry requirements and career pathways.
The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen Malta’s talent pipeline in tourism, ensuring the sector remains competitive in a changing global environment.
