Two former Malta Business Awards winners, artist Stephanie Borg and Rabat Marbles, have joined forces to design and craft this year’s award mementos – the very symbols that will be handed to Malta’s top businesses during tonight’s Malta Business Awards 2025 ceremony.
The collaboration brings together art, design, and craftsmanship in a piece that represents direction, focus, and growth – the same qualities embodied by Malta’s SMEs.
Borg, known for her distinctive artistry and attention to detail, sought to transform marble – a material often associated with permanence or function – into something sculptural, modern, and meaningful. “The first intention was to shift perception,” she explained. “To create an object that feels dimensional, contemporary, and symbolic of progress.”
The design draws inspiration from the arrow symbol featured in the Malta Business Awards logo, subtly carved into each piece rather than printed or applied. The arrow motif serves as a metaphor for direction and forward motion, echoing the entrepreneurial spirit that drives Malta’s business community.
Working closely with the team at Rabat Marbles, the project evolved through a series of technical and artistic refinements. The process balanced precision engineering with artisanal craft, exploring how marble could be shaped to express modernity while maintaining the material’s timeless beauty.
The final design was realised in Carrara marble, selected for its elegance, quality, and soft tones that align with the Malta Business Awards’ brand palette. The result is a minimalist yet powerful object – one that captures the resilience and ambition of Malta’s entrepreneurs.
“The creation of the award was a collaborative journey that began last August,” Borg noted. “It’s a merging of concept, identity, and craftsmanship into a single form – a tribute to the spirit of innovation and persistence being celebrated tonight.”
As the spotlight turns to this evening’s ceremony, the handcrafted mementos stand as a reminder that recognition itself can be an art form – shaped by the very excellence it honours.
