Gamefound Acquires Indiegogo In Bid To Build Next-Gen Crowdfunding Giant

Gamefound, the Poland-based crowdfunding platform with a strong foothold in tabletop games, has acquired Indiegogo, one of the original pioneers of the sector. The deal brings together two platforms with different strengths, as they aim to create a broader and more capable ecosystem for both creators and backers.

Indiegogo, founded in 2008, has helped raise nearly $3 billion for projects across categories such as tech, design, and film. Its acquisition marks a significant shift in the crowdfunding landscape, with Gamefound expected to integrate its proprietary infrastructure across Indiegogo’s wider offering.

While Gamefound will continue to focus on tabletop projects, the company plans to make campaigns discoverable across both platforms. Indiegogo’s existing categories will benefit from Gamefound’s technology, which has been tailored for end-to-end campaign management, from pre-launch to post-campaign services.

Creators will be able to log in through either platform, with Gamefound promising more favourable business terms and improved support tools for Indiegogo users. The unified platform will also feature enhanced analytics, integrated marketing tools, and additional payment methods, although these will be introduced in stages.

Julie dePontbriand, CEO of Indiegogo, described the acquisition as a step forward for the platform’s evolution. “Gamefound’s technology is unmatched in the industry. By joining forces, we can bring more value to creators and backers and position ourselves for long-term growth.”

Gamefound, which started as a pledge manager in 2016 before expanding into a full crowdfunding service, has grown rapidly. In 2024, it raised over $165 million across major board game campaigns, including projects tied to the Cyberpunk 2077 franchise. The platform’s growth has been driven by a commitment to product development, with new features rolled out every two weeks and a user interface designed to simplify campaign management.

Speaking about the deal, Gamefound CEO Marcin Świerkot said the company’s aim is to offer a platform that is both technically advanced and user-friendly. “Our growth has come from listening to what creators and backers need, and then building the tools to meet those expectations. This acquisition allows us to scale that approach across new categories.”

Following a short transition period, campaigns launched on Indiegogo will begin to adopt Gamefound’s backend systems. Campaigns on Gamefound, meanwhile, will gain visibility across Indiegogo’s wider user base, which currently includes around 38 million members.

The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Both companies say they remain committed to maintaining their core communities while expanding the combined platform’s reach and functionality.

The move comes at a time when the crowdfunding sector is seeing increased competition, as platforms seek to differentiate themselves through stronger creator tools, improved trust and safety, and access to international audiences. With this acquisition, Gamefound is positioning itself as a cross-category leader capable of serving both established industries and emerging creators.
