CodeSprintMT 2025 brings together Malta’s coding community from Secondary School to Industry Professionals.
The keyboards are warming up. The stakes are higher than ever. Malta’s brightest coding talent is about to step into the spotlight.
The Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation, in collaboration with ICE Campus, proudly announces the return of CodeSprintMT – Malta’s premier coding competition that has become the island’s premier platform for discovering, celebrating, and launching coding talent across all age groups and skill levels. This year’s edition offers over €7,000 in prizes, ranging from cash awards, course vouchers, and career opportunities that could change everything.
“We’re not just looking for the best programmers – we’re launching careers, building communities, and proving that Malta punches way above its weight in tech talent,” says Josmar Borg from MEYR.
Three competitions, one goal: building Malta’s coding community.
CodeSprintMT 2025 isn’t your typical coding competition. It’s three distinct challenges designed to bring together coders at every level and build connections that last:
- Secondary Category (Ages 13-16): Powered by title sponsor Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA), this Python-focused challenge aligns with the national curriculum. Top prize: €500, plus sponsored training and a place in Malta’s official CodeSprintMT Hall of Fame.
- Post-Secondary Category (Ages 16-19): Also sponsored by Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA), these Java challenges prepare sixth form students studying intermediate or advanced computing to prove they’re industry-ready. Same prizes, same spotlight, same community-building potential.
- Open Category (18+): The big leagues, sponsored by MeDirect Bank (Malta). Eight hours. Any programming language. Real-world challenges that mirror what Malta’s top tech companies face daily. Winner takes home €3,000, with €1,500 and €500 for runners-up. But here’s the kicker… industry leaders from Malta’s biggest brands will be watching, judging, and scouting talent.
Industry backing signals serious career potential.
The competition’s impressive industry support lineup demonstrates Malta’s tech ecosystem rallying behind the next generation. With MDIA powering both secondary and post-secondary categories and MeDirect Bank Malta backing the high-stakes Open category, participants know they’re competing on a platform that matters to Malta’s business ecosystem.
Community sponsor Melita and Central Mediterranean Business School (CMBS) join the initiative, while experience sponsors J’Oli brings the fuel (food) and Bolt Business delivers the swag. Supporting sponsors Tech.mt, Xjenza Malta, 9H Digital, and Cisco Networking Academy round out a coalition that spans Malta’s entire digital landscape.
“When you see this level of industry support, you know something special is happening,” adds Nikolai from ICE Campus. “These aren’t just sponsors – they’re potential employers, mentors, and partners for our participants’ futures.”
The timing couldn’t be better. Recent Eurostat data shows 23.3% of Maltese girls aged 16-19 have written code in the past three months – more than double the EU average and the highest rate among all member states. Malta isn’t just keeping up with the digital revolution; we’re leading it.
“CodeSprintMT represents everything we’re working toward in education,” says Josmar Borg. “It’s about thinking differently, solving problems creatively, and building the skills that will define Malta’s economic future.”
Why this matters for Malta.
CodeSprintMT is intensely personal. It’s you versus the challenge, your skills against the clock. But the community it builds lasts long after the keyboards go quiet.
“We’ve seen friendships form, mentorships begin, and participants land positions at top companies,” notes Nikolai Sammut. “Some of our biggest success stories started with participants who didn’t think they were ‘ready.’ That’s exactly who we want to reach.”
The competition runs from July 5-19, 2025. Registration closes June 27 giving aspiring participants just weeks to decide if they’re ready to step into Malta’s coding spotlight. For registration and more information:
